Facepalm - You're doing it wrong.
I've been using this space for about a year. It is now painfully obvious that I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't really have much to say. I used to do web design but that was back in the 90s doing HTML and static pages. I don't have a clue about CSS, PHP, Java Script and etc. I upgraded from Wordpress 2.7 to 2.8 and it completely wrecked the administrative dashboard. Formatting was completely fouled up in Firefox and while the formatting worked better in Opera, I could not edit posts. There were several forum posts on Wordpress from people having the same issues but none had a concise solution that worked across the board. Most were able to clear the cache in their browser and reinstall 2.8 to fix the issue. This didn't work for me but I was finally able to find a fix here. In the process of trying to get this to work, I deleted my entire site and database in order to reinstall from scratch. I made a full backup last weekend so I didn't think it would be a problem. I later realized that my themes and plugins were backed up but my databases had not been. So my older posts and comments no longer exist. I'm ok with this because it gives me a chance for a fresh start. Next my issue is my RSS feeds. My RSS has never worked properly but I figured it couldn't be that complicated. Wrong! I spent my entire Saturday researching and looking through code without coming up with a solution. My XML is jacked up because of a blank line is generated at the beginning of the file. So, I combed through the majority of my code looking for blank lines outside of PHP tages. Unfortunately, I still can't get my feed to validate. If you would like to subscribe to this site you can input this URL into your feed reader and it will work. My fancy feedburner subsciptions icons to the right don't work at all. I should remove them but they look cool. (The Twitter icon does work. So, you can click on it and subscribe to me there if you'd like.) So, if you're reading this, thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy my completely unprofessional ramblings.

Looking for CISSP Resources

I’ve been thinking about it for 3 years now. In other words…procrastinating. Maybe I’ve finally decided to take the next step in building my resume in order to advance my career. As an Information Security professional, the Certified Information Security Professional (CISSP) is “the” most recognizable and respected certification to have. In 2007 I completed my master’s degree in Information Systems with a specialization in Information Security. With that, along with my 5 years of security administration experience, I was able to move up the career ladder. Most of the security folks that I’ve talked with agree that the CISSP is still a beneficial credential to continue to build out my resume. I decided to query my social networks to find out the best resources for studying for the test and here are some of suggestions that I received. Books: CISSP Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Fourth Edition
  • Hardcover: 1145 pages
  • Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media; 4 edition (November 9, 2007)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0071497870
  • ISBN-13: 978-0071497879
Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CISSP CBK
  • Hardcover: 1112 pages
  • Publisher: Auerbach Publications; 1 edition (November 14, 2006)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0849382319
  • ISBN-13: 978-0849382314
Web: CCCure.org Portal that contains resources for studying the Common Body of Knowledge related to various certifications including CISSP. 7 Types of Hard CISSP Exam Questions and How To Approach Them White paper by Global Knowledge Training: SANS +S Training Program (Management 414) SANS class with the focus on the CISSP common body of knowledge (CBK). Now, I just need to get started. If anyone has other resources that they would suggest, please let me know. I’m also open to tricks & methodology used to study and retain all this information. Thanks to @SecurityTwits for these tips.
